Freebird by Gwen Piercy

Rating: 1 out of 5

Blurb: Meg is smart, artistic, fiercely independent and bored. Disillusioned by the plastic life of Los Angeles, Meg retreated to live an exceedingly ordinary life in the quaint and friendly island of Montcovery, where no one could hurt her again. She is a control enthusiast with strong convictions and her rules are set in stone- work hard, be financially independent and say no to romance. But when rock star Steve Ford Crashes into her, sparks strike off from the outset and soon Meg realizes that he is everything that she shouldn’t want- a whole lot of dirty hotness.

Thoughts: Freebird is a very confusing book. I found myself wondering what this story was really about. Was it about finding love? Escaping from personal trouble? That was not my only concern and or disappointment with the book. Though Piercy writes what seems to be an interesting rocker love story, her all together romance falls short. I did feel sparks when Steve and Megan have their kiss, but after that it seems to be mediocre and cliche. My final disappointment in this book is the lack of characters and action. All the characters seemed very stereotypical, the strict no love girl, the suave and cocky guy, the nepotistic mother who favors the younger sister, and not to mention the ditsy young girl. All of these characters have no really redeeming quality's, and where I find myself wanting the book to end quickly. BUT though the book was lacking in many departments, I was happy with the style of writing and not having a heroine starving for love. I do wish that their would have been alternating viewpoints and more action scenes, that keep you flipping the pages.
